Driving, Voting, and other Name Changes

I applied for my new driver's license at the end of June, received a temporary paper license that day (I kinda gave the lady a "what's this?" look when she handed it to me), and the real license showed up a few weeks later. When I was at the Department of Driver Services, they said they could also update my voter registration. Yipee! That saved me a name change-related errand!

In the meantime, my slacker husband finally gets online a week or two later to change the address on his license and also opts to update his voter registration. His (real--not paper) license showed up in the mail a few weeks after mine.

His voter registration card showed up a couple weeks ago. I was convinced that mine got lost in the bureaucracy, and I would have to stop by the voter registration office to take care of it sometime. Lo and behold--today my voter registration card showed up! But still, it took about a month longer to process an in-county change than an out-of-county change? What's up with that?

More name updates:
  • I just found out that my yahoo emails were going out with my maiden name, so I finally figured out how to change that setting this week. I should probably double-check all of my google-linked accounts, too.
  • All of the utilities that were in my name have be updated.
  • My credit card and my store charge card have had my new name on them for at least two months.
  • Our joint bank accounts are in both of our names, except for those that belonged to him before we were married. He's just being his normal slacker self and not prioritizing getting me on the account... should I mention that he just zeroed out his old checking account today and he *might* close the account tomorrow if he wakes up before the bank closes?
  • I still haven't changed my name for my car tags, but I figure that I have till May 2011 to do that without a penalty ;-)
