Once again, please excuse my lack of updates. I have no excuse other than procrastination...
The floors started going in three weeks ago (Day 78). It took two guys all day to pry up the old flooring in the foyer because their machine ate the subfloor instead of being helpful (see top photo). In the meantime, the flooring guys were putting down bamboo in the kitchen and eat-in kitchen. I'm so glad we decided to change out the floors to something we preferred, because the lighter finish brightens up our home considerably, and they're so pretty! And best of all, the big gaps between planks that collected kitty litter are GONE!
The next day (Day 79), our cabinets went in over the new floors while I was out to lunch with Dave. And do you remember the patch of subfloor in the hallway where the machine ate through? Well, there was a a nice divot in the subfloor, along with a hole where we could see down into the basement. The flooring guys thought they could fix this with an extra layer of glue. Needless to say, it didn't work, and we lost a day (Day 80) while someone else came in, pulled up the bamboo over the weak patch, and replaced that section of subfloor.
The day after the subfloor was replaced (Day 81), the floors were finished. In the middle of the whole flooring fiasco, my appliances were delivered! They're stashed in the formal dining room until the kitchen is ready for them (you can see some of the boxes in the middle photo above), but they're here, and I can't wait till I can use them!
And then we went on vacation, so we didn't get to enjoy the new floors till almost a week later...
