My husband has a fondness for cookie cakes from Great American Cookies, so each year I choose a "surprise" design for his birthday cake that he can't see until it's time to blow out the candles. This year I went with a sports theme, appropriately decorated with baseballs (for his beloved Cubbies), footballs (for Da Bears), and soccer balls (for his current World Cup obsession). Previous cakes have been decorated with a
patriotic rocket ship, the
Chicago Cubs logo, and my personal favorite, a
stegosaurus. He's also a Fourth of July baby, so our nieces were appropriately decked out in red, white, and blue!
