Dave and I just returned from a week-long trip to California where he had his first In-N-Out burger, saw a Joshua tree, and tasted a fried Twinkie. We flew out with my parents and spent the first few days with my grandmother, whom Dave met for the first time. While we were out having fun at places like the Trona Pinnacles and the Maturango Museum, Grandma crocheted a Bears-colored football to officially initiate Dave into the family (I got a lap blanket from Dave's grandmother for my birthday).

Our next stop was to visit my best friend, Heather. I introduced Dave to her husband, Kevin, and all of us met their 19-month-old daughter for the first time. My parents stayed the night, then headed to Redondo Beach for the night before they flew home. Dave and I had lots of fun with Heather, Kevin, and Faith, but unfortunately, I didn't take very many pictures! I guess we were too busy trying fried Kool-Aid at the Fresno Fair and eating delicious tri-tip sandwiches (yes, it's all about the food!)

We drove a rental car back to LA and spent the night at Redondo Beach. A friend of Dave's recommended Old Tony's on the pier for dinner, where a seagull watched diners eating in the hope that he would get fed; we named him Ralph since my parents' beagle does the same thing! The following morning we packed up, dropped off the car, and caught a shuttle to LAX for the flight home. Skeeter was *very* happy to see us--she has made sure we know exactly how much she hated being abandoned by her humans for a week, even if Kristine was the awesomest kitty-sitter ever!
